Foster
The most profound way you can make a difference for cats in need is to volunteer as a foster.
Fosters temporarily care for rescued cats in their homes, loving and socializing them until Dirty Little Paws finds them their forever homes. Dirty Little Paws provides initial supplies and pays for all approved medical care.
We are always in urgent need of more fosters because the more we have, the more cats we can save.
All cats in foster homes are tested for FIV (feline AIDS) and FeLV (feline leukemia), vaccinated when old enough, dewormed, spayed/neutered when old enough, and microchipped. Some (especially kittens) may be adopted quickly, while others may need to be in foster care for several months.
Cats in need of fostering will run the gamut from moms with nursing litters and young energetic kittens to mellow older cats and everything in between. Some may need socializing because they are very shy, have never been around people or have been abused or neglected. Some may be recovering from injuries or illness and require medication.
In addition to providing a clean, safe, indoor home for the cats until they are adopted, fosters must have a reliable car and be willing to take the cat to the vet when it needs medical treatments. They also need to allow pre-screened potential adopters to come to their homes for a meet and greet with the foster cat.
Fostering is ideal for volunteers who want to experience the joy of a companion animal but are not ready for the long-term commitment of adoption. Fosters must be at least 18 years old and have the approval to foster from all the adults living in the home.
